ROBIN AND NIGHT WING ARE MY WORLD ❤️
You might be asking, Who is Robin and Nightwing? Well. They are my cats. They keep me going…. EVERY. SINGLE.DAY. Since Robin and Nightwing are always super supportive of me, I am also supportive of them.
They are not here for the longest time, so I really want to make it super special for them. While they are beside me in this lifetime of theirs. I know there are a lot of first-time cat owners, and I want to help in whatever way possible!
***If you do not want**** to know of the story about how I became a cat mom.
Click on: “What are some things that keep my cats happy?” Anyway, enjoy pictures of my cats, whom I love with all of my heart.

How I became a cat mom
I first became a cat mom in September of 2019. My neighborhood was filled with cats, and we had a cat named Julie. She ended up in our home, and we kind of just fed her and took care of her the best we could. She would always give birth to her kittens in our yard. Always. We would always try to keep them safe, try to help them make it through the first couple of months of their lives. I was so used to kitties at this point, I wish I had been able to take them all in, but I was only a college student who lived away from home. It was mid-September, Julie had just had kitties a couple of months ago, for this litter, my parents did not have the kittens inside the home. The kitties were being raised out in the wild by Julie. They were super fiesty, vicious little kittens. They often defended themselves by clawing at our dog’s nose/eyes.
When I first saw Spooky and how I rescued “him”
Anyways, Julie had given birth a couple of months prior, I was outside my childhood home, and I saw a kitten running for its life. The first thing that caught my eye was its bright orange fur mixed with black. I instantly knew he was perfect for my brother, my brother had just lost his cat, Bob (RIP), so I chased him, but he was so fast. It was very difficult chasing him; I had to ask for help. My nieces and nephews were kind enough to help.
How we rescued “him”
I had the perfect idea of telling my nieces and nephews to help capture the kitty. Sure enough, my nephew was the one who caught him, but he ended up escaping from the box I had him in. I got Sad. We didn’t give up, though. I was determined to capture him again because he was so cute, and he was definitely going to die if we didn’t rescue him. I had also already told my brother that I got him a new cat. It eventually ended up being okay because we managed to capture him again. We immediately put him in a Sketchers shoe box. I made holes before putting him inside. I added ham inside the box (cats can eat ham, but in small amounts, never as the only source of food), and then I drove 4 hours back to where I lived at the time straight away.
The first moments with “him”
He was meowing the whole way to the city. It was okay; he was scared. Everything was new to him. Just a couple of hours ago, he was outside fighting for his life. Never being inside a moving car, less moving at 80mph. When I first got home, we gave her more ham. She enjoyed it. The following day, we got him some cat food, a litter box, and some litter. Thinking back at it, he only peed on my bed once, and it was more than likely because he was scared, or because he wanted to have his scent in the apartment. Who knows. The time was September, right around Halloween, and it made perfect sense to name him Spooky.
HE WAS A HER
Funny story, I believed Spooky was a male cat for almost a year, then I found out she was a GIRL. I was so shocked, but I immediately got her girl cat clothes; she looked so adorable. She was originally my brother’s cat, but she grew an attachment towards me, so she was kind of our cat, but more my cat. But now in 2025, she lives with my brother full-time time and I visit her often since they live about 500 ft from me. She was my first cat. I will always love her, but she was always supposed to be for my brother.
Robin
Now I have Robin and Nightwing. Robin is Spooky’s kitty. Spooky escaped one day and got pregnant. I should have had her neutered, but without Spooky getting pregnant with the neighborhood cat, Spooky would have never given me Robin and Pickle.
I am forever grateful for the day I laid my eyes on Spooky. She is the reason I have two loving cats today. The reason I welcomed cats into my life. This was in 2019, and I was just in my early 20s. It has been 6 years since we have had her.
So I haven’t always been a cat mom; I did and still do a lot of research. For everything! Like, did you know male cats must stay extra hydrated because they are more prone to getting urinary tract problems? A cat should drink around 60mls/kg of water per day. Go here if you want to know more about Cat Urinary Tract Problems and Infections.
What are some things that keep my cats happy?
clean litter scheduled food time. access to clean water 24/7 water bowl & food bowl kept separate clipped claws | window with a view play time. catnip. outside/balcony time balls. bells. boxes. water caps. kindness. love. care. PETS. Introduce new cats with caution |
Do you have to do all of these things? nah. but it can help keep your cat in a happy cuddly mood. Remember this works for me, what works for me might not work for you. I still would like to help you, if you’re looking for it.
What is my number one priority as a cat mom?
Thinking about it now, I believe everything is a priority. Everything that I listed makes a cat’s day better, and how can that not be a priority? But if I had to pick, it would be having the litter cleaned twice a day.
HOW am I keeping my cats happy?
Access to clean water 24/7
I don’t want my cats to get a UTI. Both cats matter, Robin, Male, and Night Wing, Female. Males are more prone to getting a UTI. They need to stay hydrated. That’s important. You can always give them a bowl of water. But with that, it’s important to change and clean it every day. I am busy most of my days, so I decided to invest in a water fountain with a filter. My cat will have access to water 24/7. It has a 1-year warranty on the water pump, so if it goes out, it will be replaced.
Clean Litter
*very important* You don’t want your home to smell like cat litter, so it’s critical to clean the litter at least once a day. You do that and your litter will last longer as well. It is also a lot better for you to clean the litter more regularly. “The toxic and hazardous compounds in cat pee and poo do release and intensify over time. The longer the waste is left, the more it decomposes, leading to the emission of harmful gases and the activation of parasites.” sooo, in all honesty, it is also better for you in the long run.
**(disgusting paragraph ahead… skip if you don’t want to be grossed out right now)
Because, imagine your cat going to the litter box and there they see an old poo they took earlier in the day. They go in because they have to, and they start making that “hole” in the litter box, they start clawing at the old poo. That old poo goes to the fur, the kitty cat then travels all over your home with the old poo stuck to their fur. And that makes your home smell like cat litter. Yeah, that’s definitely not good for your cat or your home. Even your bed. Imagine the poo particles?
**(end of ‘disgusting’ paragraph)**
My cats deserve a clean litter box, and I deserve a litter box that is easy to clean. So there are two options of cat litter boxes you can get. I love the sifting cat litter box, it makes my job 10xs easier. Does not require a scoop. However, it is plastic, but still ok. Just make sure to replace it twice a year. (it’s totally ok if you cannot do that, replacing it at least once a year is a good option as well) But why? Because your cat scratches the plastic while digging their hole, and well, things can seep through the cracks. Hence, the odor that comes out of the box after a while
I just got the cat stainless steel litter box , and so far, it’s 10/10. Has a wall, so it helps my cat from making a mess and clawing the litter everywhere. It comes with a scoop and a complimentary mat. So far 10/10. What I plan on doing is using my old sifting cat litter box and just using that to “scoop the litter,” but since it is XL, it is very heavy. So I’d rather just scoop it up. Or have my boyfriend do that, but I’ll personally just use the scoop to clean the litter box.
*Quick Tips for Keeping Litter Box Clean*
I do recommend cleaning the litter box after every cleaning, with a wipe, toilet paper, or something disposable. I like to use an odor control spray (honestly, that Spray helped me out through a lot of accidents).
Having disposable gloves helps, or just use your hands and make sure to wash your hands really well. Another option is you can get grocery bags and use those as gloves, just make sure that there are no holes, because then you will get it all over your hands. Another option is getting toilet paper and just using enough that it doesn’t seep through and touch your fingers when you wipe.
Being Fed
It’s important to feed your cat daily, and it helps to have a set scheduled time. A thing about cats is that they can be very needy. They like to have a schedule. (I unintentionally scheduled patio time with my cat. So now when I wake up to use the restroom, he meows at me like there is no tomorrow and walks towards the back balcony.)
*Friendly Tip* I do recommend keeping the water bowl and food bowl separate from each other. I noticed that when I did have the water bowl next to the food bowl, a kibble would always make its way to the water fountain. The water would turn a different color, and so I would have to change it out. Causing me to dispose of the water and clean it, and well, that just means more work for me. So if anything, it helps to have them separate from one another.
Doing what your cat likes and having Play time with them
It is critical to spend time with your cat. They love company, well, not all, only some. I know some cats can be super distant, but they will be in the same room with you. Every cat is different; they have their own personality. So with time, you will know what your cat likes or does not like, and you will just have to adjust to how they are.
**You can train your cat to be more lovey-dovey, and to enjoy being carried, but for that, you would have to have your cat since them being a kitten, and then you could train them to enjoy being carried and enjoy their paws being touched. If they have been experiencing all of the things ever since they were kittens, then that’s all they’ve ever known, and well, they will be used to it.
When Spooky gave birth to her kittens, I would touch them a lot and spend time with them. I would carry them. I knew I wanted to keep Robin and give the other two away, so I was focusing my time on Robin more so we could bond. I have always carried him and taken him exploring, so now I can take him exploring. He can want to leave, but that is normal.**
I sometimes just throw balls, toys, caps, and little knick-knacks that can be played on the floor all over the apartment. I sometimes just get the catnip and put it all over their fur and the floor. They start rolling on it immediately. I get my boxes that I get when I receive packages, and I put them on the floor so they can explore the box and stay inside it.
Like right now, I have a box, but I made holes all over it, and I also put a huge hole so the cat can get in and out easily. I put all of their toys in there. It’s kind of like a little ball pit, but for your cat. In a cardboard box. NightWing loves to use it; I’ve had it for months already at this point, and she still uses it to this day. She enjoys having all of her balls and knick-knacks in one place.
I also like for my cats to have a view, something to look at. They love to just see the outside. They get distracted. Easily. They are always attracted to bugs, birds, squirrels, trees, and flying trash. So I make sure the cat tower is by a window where there is a lot of traffic or things that they can look at and be distracted with.
I recently got a net for my balcony, that way my cats won’t jump out. It’s better to be safe than sorry. You know, they will literally go for anything and not think of the consequences. So with that, I can leave the balcony door open. I started to get flies inside my apartment.. Might be disgusting, but yeah, that was their playtime. haha. They would run around the apartment trying to catch it. I was like Aw, they are distracted, and they are getting their workout in.
(With the flies being inside my apartment, I realized that was going to be a problem, so I got a Bug Zapper. It has helped a lot.. You can also get a fly swatter too, it’s cheaper!)
You do not have to spend a lot of money to get your cats happy. You just have to be sure to give your cat kindness, love, care, and lots of pets. Give them their space if needed, feed them and keep them hydrated. ❤️
ALWAYS introduce cats with caution
I do have a tip for you, if you only have one cat and you plan to get another one in the future. That’s totally okay. But I do recommend you do a little bit of research here before introducing cats to each other. Cats must be introduced properly. It can get wild VERY fast.
My brother has Spooky, and they live a couple of buildings away. My brother decided to take Spooky for a walk. He ended up at my home. Spooky was on a leash. Nightwing was happy, but then Spooky started to hiss, and then Robin came to see what was going on and started to hiss back at Spooky. A cat fight broke out.
Straight out of a cartoon. Cat fur being clawed out. It was a ball of cats fighting. We had to break that fight immediately. It was intense. My brother then got Spooky and was able to take her back to his apartment. After that, for the next hour, Robin and Night Wing were not happy with each other. They were just hissing at each other and making those cat howls. It was intense. I kept on giving them treats, but nothing. They were just on the lookout for a strange cat. I was very sad, but after my boyfriend got home, they were a little more at ease and content. So yeah!! Don’t just introduce cats to each other; there can be a cat fight involved.
I am hoping this helped you in some way. Don’t forget you are awesome, and thank you so very much for reading this.
Everyone always starts somewhere. So if you are looking to adopt a cat, or you already have one and want more tips, this was for you.
God Bless You ❤️
